Yakima FrontLoader Recall Information

SAFETY RECALL NOTICE: NHTSA Campaign 11E-017

Dear Yakima Customer:

This notice is sent to you in accordance with the requirements of the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

Yakima Products has decided that a defect that relates to motor vehicle safety exists in the FrontLoader top of car bike mount.

IMPORTANT!

Your FrontLoader top of car bike mount is being recalled.

In the interest of ensuring absolute safety with our products, we ask that you remove those products from your vehicle.

Why is a recall being conducted?

A small number of units shipped from March 2010 through December 2010 have malfunctioned. In these instances bikes have become loose or have been ejected from the bike mount. The issue has been addressed in the current generation of the FrontLoader that began shipping in February 2011 and is currently at retail.

You can identify if your FrontLoader is part of the recall by examining the front wheel hoops. If you have four wheel position options, then you have the original design, which is part of the recall. If you have five positions, then you have the current FrontLoader, which is not part of the recall.

What are we doing about the problem?

Yakima is replacing defective products at no charge to consumers.

What should you do?
